Concert on the 170th anniversary of Leoš Janáček's birth. The concert will feature previously unknown liturgical compositions by the barely twenty-year-old Leoš Janáček.
From the age of 11, Janáček learned general bass and counterpoint, which introduced him to Baroque and Renaissance compositional techniques. He embodied it especially in small liturgical choral compositions on Latin texts, which respected the Palestrina style promoted and cultivated within the framework of the so-called Caecilian reform of church music. These works were written beyond the scope of Janáček’s school duties and curriculum and often relied on Gregorian chant. In a few cases the organ is added to the singing voices, but it is only in a supporting role. We therefore take the liberty of enriching the accompaniment with string instrumentation without adding or detracting anything from the composer’s compositional intent. During the concert, we will also hear “similar” compositions from the beginnings of Italian Baroque music, which are incredibly compatible with the music of the young Janáček.
All in authentic interpretation and on period instruments.
