Don't miss the performance of the female choir Hrynjandi coming from Iceland.
Hrynjandi Women’s Choir was founded in 2010 by a group of friends that wanted a platform to sing and perform on a regular basis. Actor and singer Maríus Sverrisson was the choir´s first conductor, leading the group until 2016.
In 2016 Jón Svavar Jósepsson took over the choir, and under his leadership the choir put more focus on Icelandic folk songs. But the repertoire also included 16th century music and American pop songs – a variation of song choices for which the choir was applauded.
In 2022 Soprano Berta Dröfn Ómarsdóttir took over the choir from Jón Svavar and changed the choir’s main emphasis to performing songs that are composed, written or arranged by women.
From early on the choir took part in installations and art shows and has cooperated and performed with various singers and artist such as Erna Ómarsdóttir, dancer and choreographer, Band called Eva, artist Þórunn Björnsdóttir and artist Gunnhildur Hauksdóttir, whose art installation Rat Choir, which Hrynjandi was part of, was purchased by National Gallery of Iceland.
